FOOD PANTRY

One of the ways the Sullivan Center offers HOPE to the neighboring communities is through the Food Pantry Program. And, the Food Pantry Program gains its spirit through the Food Pantry Volunteers.

Food is distributed Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to residents living within zip code areas of 30310, 30311 and 30315. A picture ID is required (driver’s license, Georgia ID), as well as proof of residency (lease, utility bill) and social security cards for each person in the household. Food is available once every three months to persons in our service area.

Some of the volunteers have offered their services for years, but few have volunteered as long as Mr. Norris Callier Sr. and Ms. Rose McGhee–Weaver. They have both been helping the Center distribute food since 1984.

Ms. Rose remembers Sister Marie’s original location at West Hunter Baptist Church. All of the volunteers agree that they enjoy helping others. Ms. Rose says, “especially those in need.” Ms. Taylor, who has volunteered for six years says, “I just want to help other people.”

The Sullivan Center has 10 dedicated volunteers who faithfully coordinate the Center’s Food Pantry:

  • Ms. Thelma Amis
  • Mr. Norris Callier, Sr.
  • Ms. Della Edwards
  • Ms. Zelma Head
  • Mr. Ulysses Hollis
  • Ms. Elizabeth Jordan
  • Ms. Elvira Knight
  • Ms. Rose McGhee–Weaver
  • Ms. Bernice Taylor
  • Mr. Gerald Towns

Mr. Callier shares food from Kroger every week. Additional food comes from Atlanta area church food drives, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and individual supporters.

The food pantry is part of the West End Ecumenical Emergency Assistance Center.
You can help by donating food, by making a cash donation, or by organizing a food drive.
